About Joshua Kays, MD
Joshua Kays, MD is a surgical oncologist on the team at Naab Road Surgical Group in Indianapolis with expertise in the treatment of gastrointestinal cancers and disorders. His clinical practice includes care of patients with primary and secondary liver tumors, bile duct cancer and disorders, gallbladder cancer and disorders, benign and malignant pancreatic tumors and disorders, stomach cancers, colon cancer, neuroendocrine tumors and sarcomas.
Dr. Kays was raised in Hennepin, IL. He graduated from Northern Illinois University with a bachelor degree in cellular and molecular biology. He earned his medical degree from the University of Illinois-Peoria. Following medical school, Dr. Kays, moved to Indianapolis for general surgery residency at Indiana University. While a surgical resident he completed a two year oncology research fellowship and earned a master’s degree in translational research from Indiana University. Upon completion of residency, Dr. Kays moved to Los Angeles where he completed a fellowship in complex general surgical oncology at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center. Dr. Kays has authored numerous peer reviewed publications, presented at multiple regional and national meetings, and is a reviewer for the journal Surgical Endoscopy.
Dr. Kays is a member of the American College of Surgeons, Society of Surgical Oncology, Americas Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary Association and American Society of Clinical Oncology. He continues to be active academically with his research focusing on liver, bile duct, gallbladder, pancreatic and gastric cancers and the muscle wasting syndrome known as cancer cachexia. Dr. Kays is a passionate and accomplished educator with multiple educational awards as a resident including the IU Department of Surgery Surgical Socrates Award as a chief resident. He continues to enjoy educating not only future surgeons and physicians, but also his patients and their families about their disease, surgery and treatments.
When he is not serving his patients, Dr. Kays enjoys spending time with his wife and two daughters, archery and bow hunting, playing golf, attending sporting events, and traveling.
